Sports Plays Of The Day

SPORTS PLAYS OF THE DAY

After going 4-2 this past Sunday to raise my figure to minus 200 I am back with way too many College Football picks. I have 10 in all which is way too many but what can I say. After a hot weekend can I keep the momentum going? Here are my Sports Plays of the Day.

This will be a shoot out. Take the over. It’s high at 75 but both teams have high-powered. offenses.

Even though Navy is on the road here I still like this play. Navy has been a good team for many years now. Lay the 7 points.

Kansas is so bad right now but it would not surprise me in the world of college football to see an upset. But not here. Take Oklahoma State on the road laying the 23.

TCU is a tough team to figure out. Texas had a scare last week and probably should have lost. If Texas wants to be major players they need to make a statement at home today. But it does concern me a little bit that the Eyes Of Texas are focused on the Red River Rivalry game next week against Oklahoma. Lay the 10 with the Longhorns.

Texas Tech blew one last week. Both teams struggle to play defense. I like the over at 63.

LSU had a rough opening to its title defense last week. It’s safe to say that they are not repeating. With so many top players going on to the NFL and no Spring practice LSU found themselves playing a bad game to Mike Leach’s high-powered offense at Miss State. I was tempted to take LSU straight today but the over at 50.5 is low. I don’t expect much scoring from Vandy but if they give you two touchdowns this game goes over by the end of the third quarter. Take the over.

I hate Clemson and normally I want them to lose every game. But I hate Miami even more. With all of the talk that the U is back, I am sure Dabo is listening. Despite Clemson playing Miami next week, I expect a statement to be made today by the Tigers. This game is a rare double play as I  like Clemson -28.5 and the over at 55.

UCF is a team that I have always been hard on. They don’t play any of the big schools and that is partly their fault, But they might just be a good program. I would love to see UCF join the ACC conference because both parties need each other. UCF needs to get into a power conference and the ACC needs a new competitive team. It also works geographically. Lay the 21 with the Knights.

In my WTF game of the week take Eastern Kentucky laying 2.5 at home vs Houston Baptist

NCAA Football Rankings

After another week of upsets with 4 top ten teams losing and 3 of them getting booted out of the top ten here is my rankings with still lots of football to be played.

#1

If Alabama is not your number one team then you are either a homer or a hater.  They should get every first place vote in every poll. While it’s true they have not been tested but those games are coming.  Every game they have played in has been over by half time.

#2

Now you can say this is a homer pick and your right.  But what unbeaten team has as good a win as Michigan?  No one does right now.  Beat soundly an undefeated Stanford team and dominated Virginia Tech in Blacksburg all games Notre Dame was expected to lose.  Now how could they move up while struggling at home to beat Pittsburgh.  Check Pitt’s history.  They have a habit of beating undefeated teams.

#3

You can flip Ohio State and ND if you want.  The Buckeyes are a team that has gone through alot.  Playing without Urban Meyer for 3 games.  Winning in TCU and Penn State sending their seasons into a tailspin.  In fact once the season plays out and if both ND and OSU are undefeated then the Buckeyes will be ranked higher.

#4

Clemson is firmly in the 4th spot.  I won’t mover them up despite their history the last few seasons because they have not beaten anyone yet.  Bama dominated A&M even though it was at home but do you have any doubt they would have done the same thing on the road?  And Clemson benefited from a mistake call from the referee to win that game.

These are the clear cut top 4 no matter the order you put them in.  All are undefeated.  The next 6 gets tricky.

#5.  LSU has a great resume and just dominated Georgia in every phase of the game.  Their lone loss was at Florida who enters the top ten this week.  There is still more work to do here and they can’t lose another game this season and with Alabama still on the schedule and road games at Arkansas and Texas A&M their work is cut out for them.

#6

You could drop Georgia more from 2 if you want.  But yesterday they were blown out.  The bye comes at the right time for them.  The back end of the schedule breaks nicely for them.  A game against Florida will be a great win for them and after that I expect them to run the table all the way to the SEC title game where a win is the only way they get into the playoffs.

#7

I have the Wolverines moving up several spots this week after dismantling Wisconsin.  SInce their opening day loss at ND they have been blowing everyone out except for the game in Northwestern.  Alas there is much work to do starting with a game at Michigan State and also Penn State before they play the Buckeyes in late November.

#8

I only have the Longhorns moving up 1 spot.  I am not sure how good Oklahoma is and they are not in my top 10.  TCU was already broken by the time Texas beat them.  I need to see more from Texas.  I give them credit for maintaining enough poise to win that Oklahoma game 2 weeks ago despite them blowing a large 4th qtr lead.  I just need to see more.

#9

I really feel bad for UCF.  I am moving them up one spot this week despite struggling against an inferior team.  Let’s face it they need to blow everybody out and have to hope that Cincinnatti and South Florida play them with one undefeated and the other having one loss to get any kind of respect.  Still it will not be enough.  Their fan base can cry all they want.  There just isn’t any real competition for them in their conference.  I am sure they have tried to schedule a game vs a power 5 team but no one is biting yet.  The self proclaimed defending champion won’t ever know how good they are until they somehow get into a power 5 conference.  the ACC should come calling.

#10

I have to go with the Gators here.  After losing to Kentucky they have done nothing but win.  I am not sold yet on them and the game at Georgia will be huge for both teams.  It’s an elimination game for both teams.

Sports Plays Of The Day

After a 2 day break I am back with 13 picks plus two bonus picks.  My figure stands at plus 150 pigskins.  As you know it’s 50 pigskins on each pick.  So here we go

Let’s start with Maryland.  You can bet against Rutgers every week for the rest of the year and make money.  They are just that bad.  Lay the 25 on the Terps at home against the Scarlet Knights

I have rode Buffalo alot this year and they have covered all but one game.  So lay the 11 on Buffalo at home vs the Akron Zips

In a obscure pick I like Troy who is not a bad team to win big over Liberty.  Lay the 10 on Troy at Liberty.

Old Dominion had it’s moment.  While they may play good every week they are still 1 and 5.  The Thundering Herd will win this one comfortably.  Lay the 3.5 on Marshall at ODU

I like FIU to win at home against a pretty good Middle Tennessee State team.  Lay the 2.5 on FIU at home

I like the Chanticleers today.  Who?  That’s right.  I like coastal Carolina to beat down UL Monroe at home.  Lay the 7.

The next 3 picks are all overs.

The over is 54.  Duke can score and also can’t play defense.

This could be very high scoring.  I like the over of 59 to be made comfortably.

Although I like the over in this game alot and at 46.5 it’s not that high.  I do like the Cavs to cover the spread.  They played Miami tough last year in Miami and should have won the game.

In bonus pick # 1 take the Cavs plus 7 at home to win outright.

In my second bonus pick:

This is a dangerous pick cause they are due to lose.  Central Florida is the self proclaimed defending champions and are overdue for a loss.  I don’t see it happening today.  The Knights know how good Memphis is.  So while I think Memphis could win today and it would not surprise me if they did I am still laying the 5.5 on the road on UCF.

In Game one of this series I like the Astros to win in Boston and I also like the under of 7.5.  Both Verlander and Sale will dominate this game until the bull pens get involved.

Take the Stros and the under of 7.5

I like the Brewers to win this series and even though they have won 12 in a row I am looking for lucky # 13 the bakers dozen tonight.  I also like alot of runs to be scored too.

Take the Brewers and the over of 8.5
