Sports Plays Of The Day 10-31

Sports Plays

Last weekend was a complete wash when I went 10-10 to keep my figure at minus 700. I am back today on Halloween with 12 Sports Plays all in College Football. I like a lot of games today and tomorrow which usually spells bad news.

NCAA Football

The Big 12 Conference is not known for playing defense. These are two of the better teams in the conference and the over is low which concerns me. But I still like the over of 46.5.

Both teams are pretty bad. But I like the Green Wave at home minus 6.5 over Temple.

One of these days Kansas is going to shock us and win a game or at least cover. But until I see it I will keep betting against them. Take Iowa State minus the 28.5

I definitely see a lot of points in this game. Usually, the over in these games are in the 60 point range. The over in this game is only 58. I like the over.

No Trevor Lawrence. No Problem. The backup is also a 5-star quarterback. Clemson will rally around the freshman and stay on course for next week’s showdown in South bend. Lay the 24.5 with Clemson.

Normally I would say this is a game where the Irish will be looking ahead to next week but after winning by over 40 points last week and dropping in the rankings, head coach Brian Kelly understands he has to keep the foot on the pedal. Lay the 20.5 on the Irish on the road at Georgia Tech.

This will be a hard-fought game. I like Iowa at home laying the 2.5.

The Over is low for a college game and l like both teams. Take the over of 47.5 in this game.

Neither team plays defense so I love the over of 58.5.

I like the wolfpack on the road laying the 14 against UNLV.

In the first of my team overs, I like Alabama to score over 47 points against Mississippi State.

So you think I am taking BYU in this game. Not so fast. BYU is going to win this game and probably comfortably. But the team over of 10 points for Western Kentucky is tough to not take. Even if WKU gets a garbage time TD late in the 4th quarter of a blowout. In a perfect world, WKU scores in the first quarter and gets the over by halftime.

Sports Plays Of The Day 10-25

Sports Plays

After going 5-5 yesterday keeping my figure at minus 700, it was a struggle to find games today. The fact that I will have 10 Sports Plays today might be a bad sign. This is a very tough Sunday on NFL action and the World Series took a turn last night which could spell disaster for one of the teams.

MLB

Rays

Last night’s crazy finish shifted the momentum to the Rays. But as the old saying goes in baseball the momentum can change on the next game’s starting pitchers. Clayton Kershaw is on the mound today for perhaps his biggest start as a Dodger. But I like the Rays and the under of 8.

NFL

It is extremely debatable if the Jets will win a game this season. If they do it won’t be today. Sam Darnold is coming back from an injury and the Bills have lost two straight. Take the Bills laying the 10 at MetLife Stadium.

The Raiders are having issues with their offensive line. The whole starting 5 had covid issues this week and a few might not play today. I like the Bucs on the road laying the 4.

The Jaguars could be selling off more players by the trade deadline and the morale has to be low in Jacksonville. The Chargers seem to blow leads in every game but Justin Herbert has established himself as the future at QB at least for now. I know the line is high at 9 but I like the Bolts at home.

Had Joe Mixon been playing today I probably don’t take this game but I like the Browns to win this game laying the 3.5

Dallas does not play defense and I think they score some points today. Couple that with a low over of 44.5 I like the over in this game.

I see lots of points in this game. The over is 54.5 and these teams are going to go over the 60 point mark. Take the over.

Atlanta plays no defense. The Lions offense is better now with D’Andre Swift now at RB 1. I like the Lions team over of 27.

This is another team over. I like the 49ers to score over 21. We are talking about 3 TD’s and one FG. I know they are banged up but 21 is not a high total. Take the Niners team over.

Sports Plays Of The Day 10-24

Sports Plays Of The Day

After going 5-6 this past Sunday which was highlighted by an 0-3 day in baseball I took a break and I am back today with 10 Sports Plays today with 9 of them being College Football. My figure sits at -700 for the year so I am looking for a big weekend in football.

MLB

Every game has gone over in this series. Last night’s game went over with a solo HR with two outs in the last inning which will no doubt cost me to lose my 8-team three-day parlay. But that’s life. I like the over today of 8.

NCAA Football

Coastal Carolina in ranked amazingly. They have been a growing program that is taking advantage of playing in a lesser conference. Georgia Southers in a quality program but I like Coastal Carolins to cover the 5.5 at home.

Florida State despite some bad losses is improving. Their offense will only get better as Mike Norville instills his offense. I like the team over for FSU at 28

Mercer is just horrible. Lay the 30.5 with Army

Troy is another up and coming lower-tier program. I like the Trojans at home laying the 2.5 against Georgia State.

Texas plays no defense. Let’s face it. The entire Big 12 conference has no clue what defense is. The over is reasonable at 61.5. Take the over.

Welcome back to the Mountain West Conference. I am not ready to bet in the winners but I like the team over of 23 for Nevada.

BYU has been on fire so their point spreads are starting to get very high. I like the BYU team over of 44.5.

The American Athletic Conference has also of track meet games. You know those games where the final score is often in the high 70’s. The Bearcats do play some sort of defense so the over is a little low at 56.5. I like the over in this game.

UTSA is not a bad team. LA Tech is better. Take LA Tech on the road laying the 2.5.

Sports Plays Of The Day 10-18

Sports Plays Of The Day 10-18

Yesterday was a tale of two cities. I went a whopping 7-1 in college football but 0-4 in my baseball picks. But I did win my series prediction so I went 7-5 on the day plus the series win making my day a plus 300. Overall I am sitting at -600 going into a brutal day of NFL action plus another game 7. I picked the Braves to win the series but the Dodgers have the momentum.

So Today’s sports plays of the day will feature 8 NFL picks and three MLB picks when you factor in the series pick.

MLB

The Dodgers have won the last two games but I picked the Braves to win the series so I will double down on that pick. I also like the over at 8.

NFL

I like Minnesota at home today. I just think the Vikings are better than their record. Dalvin Cook is out and that is an issue but the Falcons are in disarray. Lay the 4 on the Vikings.

Both the Steelers and Browns are on four-game winning streaks but I think Pittsburgh is the better team. Lay the 3.5 on the Burgh.

The Texans can score points and score them quickly. I know the Titans like to run the ball behind Derrick Henry. Take the over of 53 today.

This is a must-win game for the Niners today. It’s at home and they are getting points. This could be a season-saving win for the struggling Niners. Take the 3 with the 49ers.

This could be an old fashioned shootout under the Tampa Bay Sun. I like the over of 55.

The Patriots return to the field and handle the Broncos in Foxboro. Lay the 7.5 on the pats.

The Dolphins don’t like their former head coach Adam Gase. To be fair I am not even sure if Gase’s current team the Jets like him too. The Dolphins are a better team so lay the 8.5 with the Dolphins.

This is my only team over of the day and it’s on the Eagles at 17.5

Sports Plays Of The Day 10-17

Sports Plays Of The Day

After going 0-1 on Thursday my figure dropped to -900. Today I have a whole slew of picks for today which include both baseball games. I have in total 12 sports plays of the day for October 17th.

MLB

This series has been interesting. As we head to Game 6 the Braves are looking to close out the Dodgers and head to the World Series. The Dodgers are looking to force a Game 7. Max Fried is pitching for the Braves and Walker Beuhler is pitching for the Dodgers. I took the Braves for the series so my pick for today is Atlanta and the over of 8.5.

We have a Game 7 tonight between the Astros and the Rays. I took the Rays to win the series but my pick tonight is the Astros. The Rays had a 3 -0 lead in this series but the Astros have come roaring back to win the next three. The Astros have the momentum and this will make it hard for the Rays to win. It always comes down to the starting pitchers but I do expect a lot of runs tonight. So I like the Astros and the over of 8.5.

NCAA FOOTBALL

This is my anti-Miami pick. We kept hearing that the U is back. Well, Clemson smacked them around last week in a game where the score was much closer than it should have been. Let’s see how Miami responds. I am taking Pitt plus the 12.5

I like South Alabama -4 to win a home game against Texas State.

The Black Knights of Army are4-1 and I like them to beat the UT-San Antonio Road Runners at 3-2. Even though Army is on the road lay the 8.5.

The UAB Blazers are 3-1 and I like them big today at home vs Western Kentucky laying the 12 points.

Lane Kiffin took Alabama to the brink. For that reason this could be a sucker’s bet but I am taking Ole Miss laying the 1.5 at Arkansas.

UCF is not as good as they have been in the last couple of years. Memphis lost their coach to Florida State. But I still am expecting a lot of points in this game today. Take the over of 75.5.

This is another curious game. Jimbo Fisher had a big win for A & M last week. After scoring a ton of points against LSU, Mike Leach’s boys have struggled in the last two games and only scored 2 points last week. I like A & M laying 5 points on the road.

LA Tech can score points in bunches. Even if Marshall can shut them down a little bit the OVer is low enough at 48.5 to still be a great play. I like the over in this game.

Sports Plays Of The Day 10-15

Sports Plays Of The Day 10-15

After going 0-2 yesterday to drop my figure to minus 800 I am back with MLB action today only taking one game today.

MLB

The Astros won Game 4 to extend the series. I do like the over in Game 5. Take the over of 9.5

Sports Plays Of the Day 10-14

Sports Plays of the Day

Yesterday I went 2-3 to lower my figure to minus 600. Tonight is a light day with only baseball games.

MLB

The Rays are on the brink of going to the World Series with a 3-0 series lead over the Astros. The Astros are not playing badly it’s just that the Rays are playing better. I am not picking the winner of the game. But I am picking the over of 8.5 runs.

Like the Rays, the Braves have a 2-0 stranglehold on the series vs the Dodgers. I also won’t pick the winner of this game but instead, I am picking the under of 9.5 runs.

AEW Dynamite

AEW Dynamite Preview 10-14

One Man’s Wrestling Opinion

AEW Dynamite Preview 10-14

So once again we have the tag “A Huge Card” for tonight by the money mark Tony Khan. For the first time in history, we will see all four AEW titles defending in one show. Notice the FTW title is not part of this. So for those of you who thought that was a real title, this is the second time an officer of the company did not include it when talking about titles. Cody did it in his promo when he accepted Brodie Lee’s challenge. Now that we have that out of the way let’s move on. In this AEW Dynamite Review, I will look into each announced event for tonight.

Tonight’s card is very predictable, in my opinion, as they always are. To me, this ruins the matches when the winner is known prior to the match. For these matches to be worth it, I would have to rely on AEW to tell good stories which they have not shown they can either. To be fair WWE does this extremely poor as well. Which is why the Reigns/Uso angle is extremely surprising to me. But this is an AEW article. I am a fan who needs storylines, character building, and vignettes in my weekly TV shows. Leave the 20-minute matches for the PPV’s where they belong. But looking at tonight we could see two matches go over 20 minutes and in a two-hour show with only around 90 minutes of actual TV time that is half the show in just two matches.

Jon Moxley(c) ve Lance Archer AEW Heavyweight Championship Match

I think this match might have the most to talk about. Archer is getting his shot at Moxley from winning the Battle Royal at the last PPV. That same Battle Royal where Eddie Kingston did not technically get eliminated so that match did not have a real winner. Kingston got his shot and lost. More on that later. Now as Archer returns from Covid will we see a title change? I say no. But do you realize that since Moxley won the title on February 29th he has been on the losing side just once ironically in his first appearance with the title as Darby Allin’s partner against Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara. But I want to talk about his most recent title defenses and how he was not booked strong in those matches.

On Sept 24th it was The Butcher who was never going to win that match or made to look strong. Prior to that was Eddie Kingston. Moxley won when the referee quickly rang the ball as Kingston was in a submission hold. Khan must be all in on this as Kingston keeps bringing it up and even was given an open contract from the owner which he gave to The Butcher. Then prior to that we have MJF at All Out. Moxley won when he used a banned hold to beat MJF. Interestingly MJF mentioned it once and then dropped it. In fact, MJF mentioned it in the same show that Kingston mentioned him getting screwed in the Battle Royal and it was in back-to-back segments. This was something pointed out by a lot of former wrestlers.

Darby Allin was before MJF and Darby was not going to beat Moxley for the title. Finally, we have Brian Cage. Cage the monster was in a submission move when Taz threw in the title. So Cage never tapped out. Does any of that make Moxley look strong? Now as for Lance Archer. He came in hot with Jake Roberts as his manager/coach. He straight-up murders Colt Cabana, Dustin Rhodes, and QT Marshall en route to the TNT Championship Tournament FInals against Cody where he loses. Since then we have not seen Archer on the show every week In fact most of his matches have been on Dark. So Archer lost all his heat and was buried by the Cody Express. Now AEW is trying to rehab him for what another burial?

Prediction

I think Moxley wins this and ultimately drops the title to Kenny Omega at the next PPV. But here lies the problem. A clean win for Moxley buries Archer once again. If Moxley wins another match with a questionable finish or run in by Kingston then how does the champion look with yet another bad title win? The right call is for Archer to win the belt and carry it into 2021. But Khan will keep the strap on Moxley until Omega takes it off of him. I highly doubt Khan has Archer win the belt then lose it next month at the PPV.

FTR (c) vs The Best Friends AEW Tag Team Championship Match

This has to be the slowest moving angle between FTR and The Young Bucks. I am all for long-term storylines but when you drag something out this long we get stupid Weiney jokes which are not funny. Plus we have the FTR in a match where we know they are not winning. The Bucks are not funny or believable in this heel turn that is taking way too long. They are kicking referees, ring announcers, cameramen but not an actual person who can fight back. So where is the heat? Khan should be the next person they kick and we all know that Tony is dying to have a visible part on the show.

It used to be so easy for a face to turn heel. Just attack a babyface. That has always worked and will always work. Now if any of FTR, Best Friends, and the Bucks had any charisma or personality then this would be entertaining. But they don’t and it’s obvious.

Prediction

There is no way Khan messes up his and Meltzer’s dream match of the FTR vs Young Bucks for the title at the next PPV. FTR wins.

Cody (c) vs Orange Cassidy TNT Championship Match

Oh Boy. Cody is the hand-selected champion by TNT because they love him. He buries Lance Archer en route to winning the title. Archer has not been the same since that match. Then he leaves to go and shoot a shitty TV show and he comes back and gets his title back. It’s good to be the EVP of the company. Oh and Brodie Lee gets buried for the second time since joining AEW in March. But we now have Tony Khan’s Golden Boy Orange Cassidy who answered Cody’s open challenge for tonight. Khan is going to push Cassidy down our throats until we accept that he is a star. But the problem is Orange Cassidy is not a star and he never will be.

I think Cassidy would be great in the mid-card level as a champion. I think of it as a more glorified Cruiserweight level. AEW has several wrestlers that would be great in that same level. But when you put these guys up against bigger wrestlers it does not look believable. Cody has been putting over a lot of the talent in matches with them but he still gets the win. This will be what happens tonight. Does anyone think that Khan will take the title off Brodie Lee and burying him in the process only to have Cody lose the title the very next week? Oh but if you ask Khan and the AEW stans they will say that Brodie Lee is not buried. But he is. Aside from that this match is between two big babyfaces.

Prediction

Cody retains and will carry this title until Hollywood comes calling. There is a small part of me that thinks Cody could turn full-blown heel tonight and dropping the title in the process. That is because of the love Tony Khan has for Orange Cassidy.

Hikaru Shida (c) vs Big Swole AEW Women’s Championship Match

Really who cares about this Women’s Division. It’s a joke. Shida will be known as having a bad title reign due to no fault of her. These female wrestlers are just not ready for TV. This is why Thunder Rosa was brought in to wrestle on the show. The only fix is that AEW has to only use the female wrestlers who are ready and the rest have to remain on Dark which includes the Chief Bikini Officer.

Prediction

Shida retains. I just can’t see Big Swole winning this match.

MJF’s Announcement

Clearly, MJF is going to try to take over the Inner Circle. Jericho is not really a heel anymore or rather he can’t get heel heat anymore. I feel that MJF and Sammy Guevara are working together to take control of the Inner Circle. Now do they all turn on Jericho who knows. I kind of feel that there is something we could do with MJF vs Wardlow. I am not sure if the turn happens tonight but it is coming.

Miro and Kip Sabian

So Miro and Kip are wrestling tonight and we know Miro can’t lose his second match on AEW TV. As I say each and every week. I won’t support Miro until he gets out of this ridiculous angle. Yes WWE screwed up with Miro. Big Time. But AEW took him from bad to worse. For Miro, it’s the same clown different circus.

Outlook

AEW tries to make every TV Show like a mini PPV. So when anyone says AEW does not worry about ratings that’s a lie. This is the same reason why Khan was pushing any stat he could find when NXT won the ratings a few times earlier this year. So let’s not fool ourselves. This show just does not get new viewers. The matches all look the same with the flipping and flying and gymnastics they do in each match.

Plus the matches are mostly predictable and the attempts at comedy are just that attempts. They are not funny. Khan does not know how to book big men. There is rarely any heat during the matches.

I am not asking anyone to agree with me. You are free to like what you want to like. A lot of fans love AEW and that’s fine. But just don’t like it because it’s not WWE. And if you let a lot of what they are not doing right go unnoticed then you are doing them a disservice. I do want them to succeed and I treat them no differently than I do WWE.

Smackdown Review

Smackdown Review 10-9

One Man’s Wrestling Opinion

Smackdown Review 10-9

This episode of Smackdown featured the first four rounds of the draft and also five matches. There was some interesting movement between shows during the draft and we still have more to go. We also have some interesting developments with the matches. Here is the Smackdown Review for 10-9.

The Promos

Seth Rollins

Seth talks about his move to Smackdown and says it is all about the message and not the show. He talks about spreading the greater good on Smackdown. He says he is upset that he won’t be able to see the Mysterio family implode in person.

Yeah well as we found out later on that the Mysterios and Murphy are all getting moved to Smackdown. Murphy and the Mysterios have to be joined for storyline purposes. Seth is rumored to be taking time off to be with Becky as she heads into the later stages of her pregnancy. I have not been a fan of this gimmick and the promo has been the same every week.

Thumbs down 1

Big E

Kayla Braxton goes to a tired and clearly banged up Big E for an interview. Big E is clearly wearing the effects of that brutal match with Sheamus. We see a man in a security shirt milling around and we find out it is Kofi Kingston. As they hug Kofi says look, look and Big E is like na na na and it’s Xavier Woods returning. Big E hugs him and the New Day is whole again.

Kofi says something is missing then Woods says we are missing out tag team belts. Poor Big E is in so much pain he can’t do the hip swivel. We hear the familiar New Day Rocks chant. Poor E is exhausted and in pain but these are his brothers and it’s the same old promo but the New Day are one of the better acts on the show so it’s good to see them together again. Woods was out for what seems like over a year.

Thumbs up

Jey Uso

Jey is calling out Roman and is asking about the stipulation to the Hell in the Cell Match. Jey says I get it that you show up on your time. So Uso gets pumped up and says I will deal with the consequences. Poor Jey. Roman just won’t take him seriously. Then we hear Heyman interrupt Jey. Heyman says please stop embarrassing yourself and your family trying to dictate when Roman appears.

Heyman says the champ applauds your ambition but says be careful when you step into the ring with the champion. We see highlights of their last match. Now we see Roman sitting at a table talking about his father. Roman said what you just saw you can believe that. Roman says I was trying to help you and that he should acknowledge him as the tribal chief. He tells Jey that the match will be an I Quit match. Roman says it did not have to be like this. He says he loves Jey but after he says I Quit there will be consequences.

So with Drew and Orton in the cell and we find out later that Sasha and Bayley will also be in the cell WWE needed to add a stipulation to this third Hell in the Cell Match and one that was fitting for this feud. We have never had an I Quit match in the Cell and this will add to the brutality that Jey will get in this match. I love everything about this heel turn and angle.

Thumbs up

Otis & Tucker

Otis and Tucker are talking about how with Miz and Morrison getting drafted to Raw will maybe end these issues. So we see Otis reading terms from a law book when a woman hands Otis an envelope. Inside the envelope, there is a continuance filed by The Miz’s lawyers.  Otis is mad saying that he is ready now and does not want to wait. Pretty bad promo because Otis can do better. And this angle really sucks and has to end. Just take the briefcase off Otis already.

Thumbs down 1

The Matches

Big E defeated Sheamus Falls Count Anywhere Match

Man, this was a physical match. It had everything and you could see that both wrestlers were very banged up after the match. In the end, Big E won which is the absolute right call. Especially if he is being pushed as a singles wrestler and we find out later on in the night that WWE is all on Big E as a singles wrestler. Sheamus could be moving to RAW.

Thumbs up

Jeff Hardy and Matt Riddle defeated Miz and Morrison

This match was made on social media when Riddle said he wanted to team with Hardy and was afraid that one of them could be moving to another show. Miz and Morrison were making fun of Riddle on social media. Matt and Jeff won in what was a squash match. Miz and Morrison were drafted to Raw. I could dig a Riddle & Hardy tag team but I can’t put over Miz and Morrison being jobbers.

After the match, we have the return of Lars Sullivan. Sullivan was injured many months ago and has been in the news for some non-wrestling issues. I will say this. This is how you want to book big men. Sullivan came out and beat up everyone. Heels and Faces. But we have seen this act before.

Thumbs down 1

Sasha Banks defeated Bayley via disqualification

WWE totally screwed this up. They are fast-tracking this match big time. This was a two-minute match where Bayley got herself disqualified on purpose which is definitely something I can see her doing. This will set up a Hell in the Cell match between the two as Sasha challenged Bayley to the match. I must say of all the HITC matches on the next PPV this one makes the most sense. But I guess WWE figured we need them to wrestle at least once before having a match that usually ends the feud.

Thumbs down 1

The New Day defeated Shinsuke Nakumara and Cesaro(c). New Day are the New Smackdown Tag Team Champions

This is ridiculous that the New Day got a title shot when both Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have been off the show for weeks and in Woods case months. If you wanted to take the belts off Cesaro and Nakamura then why not give it to another tag team. Then we find out after the match that the New Day minus Big E are going to Raw as the Smackdown Champions. Just brutal and lazy of WWE. These are four great workers but it’s a match we have seen way too many times. I guess this is a good way to break this team up without any fights or betrayals.

Thumbs down 1

The Fiend defeated Kevin Owens

Before the match we see Owens taping up his wrists when Alexa Bliss goes over to him. She looks him in the eyes and says Let Him In. The Fiend was never going to lose this match. They could be building a faction now that he has Alexa Bliss under his thumb. Owens is still a great worker but he needs either a character change or gets into a good angle.

After the match, the lights go out. When they come back on we see The Fiend and Alexa staring at each other. Then they look at Owens in the ring, then back to looking at each other when it goes dark again.

Thumbs up

Outlook

Okay, so only five matches on the show. I know the Draft was supposed to be the highlight of the show but there was no real flow. One segment for Roman and Jey. The New Day split and the Fiend/KO match was the thread but it just seemed like a blah show to me. WWE has not been good enough week in and out to have a clunker one night.

Smackdown followed by Raw a few days later both had the same feel. Let’s just throw matches together and cross-promote the brands. Plus there was a theme of just bringing an existing feud to another show. This stinks of one or two people writing the show who lack the creativity to start new angles and feuds. That really sucks because we probably will have the same shows until the Smackdown go-home show on October 23rd.

It’s amazing to me how good they can do one angle or segment but have the rest be so bad. On this show, only the Big E vs Sheamus and the Field vs KO match were any good. I understand the thinking behind the Sasha and Bayley match but that does not make it right. Even the promos which are what I need to see in a weekly show were bad outside of Jey and Roman. There is still a lot of work to do. But surprisingly the ratings were better than what they have been.

NXT Review 10-7

One Man’s Wrestling Opinion

NXT Review 10-7

Tommaso Ciampa defeated Kushida via disqualification

This match was moved to open the show due to Ciampa and Kushida having an altercation before the show started. Kushida is really showing off the new aggressive side of him. These two were physical until the Velveteen Dream got involved and hit Ciampa instead of Kushida causing the DQ. Kushida attacked Dream afterward who was wearing tape on his arm after Kushida injured him at TakeOver.

So now these three all have heat with each other and it could ultimately lead to a triple threat match soon. New matchups for all three and it really shows how badly NXT needs to get some new blood to the main event level. It also shows that Triple H still has plans for the Dream despite his problems. Or maybe he is just going to job to both of them.

Thumbs up

Ember Moon Promo

It has been so long since I heard an Ember Moon promo I honestly forgot if she is even good at it. Well her promo was not very good. I hated the way NXT had her and Toni Storm announce they are back on the same show. But whatever. Io Shirai comes to the ring and gets ready to talk when Rhea Ripley shows up on the ramp and gets attacked by Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez. Ember races to the ramp to help Ripley and I have no idea why. This of course sets up a tag team match later in the night with the three contenders for Io’s belt. I hate how WWE just throws these matches together.

When Ember went out to help Ripley, Io stayed in the ring. That was exactly what Io should have done. But I hated how this was all jammed together. Later on in the back Io says Ember is not her problem. Ripley is not her problem. This NXT Women’s title is her problem.

Thumbs down 1

Undisputed Era

Adam Cole starts talking about Ridge Holland attacking him. He says when you mess with the Undisputed Era there will be consequences. Cole is wearing sunglasses to hide a black eye. Kyle O’Reilly said he is sorry for not getting the job done against Finn Balor. The rest of the UE pumps him up and vow to go after Ridge Holland. Cole takes off his sunglasses and says he has broken ribs. These four are still so good together. Although I am not sure how good they will be on Raw or Smackdown with bigger wrestlers.

Thumbs up

Killian Dain and Drake Maverick defeat Ever-Rise

We see footage of Drake Maverick arriving at the arena saying he and Dain have a match tonight. Dain overhears this and gets mad. Drake said you haven’t responded to my calls. I got us a new ring entrance song and it’s going to be great. Dain is mad.

When I think of mismatch duos I think of tag teams like Rock and Sock and Daniel Bryan and Kane, and Head Cheese.  Head Cheese was my favorite. It was Al Snow and Steve Blackman. Killian throws Maverick into the ring to fight. After some close calls, Killian tags himself into the match and gets the upper hand. The match ends when  Killian powerbombs Maverick hard onto one member of Ever Rise to get the win. After the match, Drake is dancing when Killian knocks him out with a right hand. Killian carries Maverick to the back.

This is funny and entertaining. I see these two winning the tag titles eventually. Every show needs some comic relief and this is the comic relief.

Thumbs up

Toni Storm Vignette

We see a good Toni Storm Vignette. This was good because she was here before but very briefly and the audience could need a refresher on her story. Storm is beautiful and well put together and will make a great addition to the roster.

Thumbs up

Johnny Gargano/Candace LaRae Promo

Johnny and Candace are walking their dog when they come up to their house. They are talking about how Candace had the match won and how Johnny is embarrassed for losing at TakeOver. Candace says we deserve rematches. Johnny says things need to change and we need a plan. They get to their house and see a brand new TV waiting by the door. Indi Hartwell gave them a 65 inch TV. First Johnny says why are you talking about that goof? Then he says I knew I liked that girl and asks Candace to help bring the TV in the house. Candace says why did she send us a TV. Johnny says who cares. Free TV.

This is such a guy thing. We all love our big screen TV’s and Johnny is funny in these spots. Later on, we see Johnny watching the TV and he calls Candace over. Johnny says he is watching a USB that Indi gave them and he said do you know how many times she saved you in that battle royal? Candace said I was not paying attention. Johnny says there is something here and I always liked that girl. Candace says me too.

Austin Theory defeats Leon Ruff then loses to Dexter Lumis

Austin Theory was rushed to Raw. He was just not ready. I like him so much better in NXT developing his character. He beats Leon Ruff and says it was just a warmup and says he will take on anyone in the back. So here comes Dexter Lumis.

I love the Dexter Lumis character. But he should not have this long of a match against Theory. I don’t get these promotions and the booking of their big men. Lumis needs to be a monster. So I didn’t l like this whole segment until Cameron Grimes attacks Lumis after he beat Theory. You could have had Lumis in a squash match to get this business across.

Ridge Holland defeated Danny Burch

Ridge gets to the arena and is asked why he attacked Adam Cole. He says last week I didn’t have a Mercedes. This week I do. Thank Adam Cole for that.

Ridge squashes Burch in a quick win. Then he attacks him after the match. Oney Lorcan comes out to save his partner and he starts to get into it with Ridge. But Ridge hurts his knee because NXT for some reason wanted to prolong this. The business was done but they had to go for one more spot with Lorcan jumping from the ring to the floor and RIdge’s knee gave out when he caught him.

This is such a shame for Ridge. He had surgery four days later and will be out for a long time. He was just starting a major angle with Adam Cole. Although this was a freakish injury NXT needs to scale back these spots which are just not necessary.

Timothy Thatcher

Another vignette with Thatcher teaching a class.

I get it. He is a badass who can really wrestle. But he has lost all the big matches he has already had in NXT. He lost in the Gauntlet Eliminator for a shot at Finn Balor. Thatcher lost in his title match with Damian Priest for the North American Championship. He lost against Finn Balor at TakeOver XXX. He lost the three-way match to get into the North American Title Ladder match. The only big match he was was against Matt Riddle who was moving to Smackdown.

Shotzi Blackheart defeated Xia Li

Shotzi dominates this match as her huge push continues. After the match, we see Boa hand Xia an envelope and after she reads it she leaves the ring immediately. This is intriguing. I hope Shotzi stops taking so many risks in the ring.

Ember Moon and Rhea Ripley defeated Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez

Well, I am going to avoid the obvious in this match. Ember and Rhea teaming up when they both want the Women’s title. Ember has not changed her style since we last saw her wrestle. So that is good to see that she just might be all the way back from her serious leg injury.

I will forget everything in this match and put it over just because Ember Moon came all the way back from a very serious injury. Otherwise, it was a predictable finish.

Outlook

I will say it each and every week. NXT just needs to stay the course and not try to out do anything AEW does. I don’t think the ratings will ever change. AEW will always get the bigger rating unless NXT goes out of character and fast tracks matches or brings in RAW or Smackdown stars. After all NXT is WWE’s developmental brand.

The one thing I need NXT to do is work on their tag team division. They are just as bad as the Raw and Smackdown tag team divisions. Maybe all three brands should merge the title and have it defended on every brand. We need to see more of that with the Women’s tag team division. It has been proven that NXT’s ratings spike when Raw and Smackdown stars appear on Wednesday night. Imagine the New Day or Street Profits having matches on NXT.

Next is the lack of title contenders for both Balor and Priest. Balor has the more prestigious title but Priest is the bigger man.

NXT 10-14 Preview

Not much has been released on tonight’s show. But what we do know is Dexter Lumis will be facing Damien Priest in a North American Championship match. I love the Lumis character but I would ne shocked if they gave him the title. Look for more interference from Cameron Grimes which could lead to another person interfering.

Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong are facing Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan for a tag team title shot. So NXT is going forward with a Kyle O’Reilly singles push. I can definitely see NXT giving Undisputed Era some gold but they don’t need it to be over. But I can’s see Burch and Lorcan holding the belts either. But this is a match for a title shot.

We also know that Ember Moon and Toni Storm will be on the show tonight. Hopefully we don’t see any match get fast tracked.
